KATHMANDU, July 22: Classes at higher secondary schools run by the private sector across the country were halted on Sunday due to an educational strike enforced by the CPN-Maoist affiliated All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary).

Many 10+2 students studying at 576 private sector-run higher secondary schools across the country were forced to stay home today, owing due to the two-day strike.

The Union has called for changing the name of those higher secondary schools that follows typically foreign word.[break]

"We have to launch a protest since the foreign names of higher secondary schools have made a mockery of nationalism," said Union coordinator Sharad Rasaili.

The Union affiliated to Baidya led Maoist party on July 16 and 17 had vandalized buses belonging to Kist Nursing College, Chitwan-based CITAF College and Ratobangla School, Lalitpur.

It had also vandalized the Florida College based at New Baneshwor and South Western State College based at Basundhara.
