LAHAN, July 13: A protest by locals in Barsain in Siraha took a violent turn, prompting police to fire three tear gas canisters to disperse the irate mob, on Friday.

The incident happened when the angry locals were picketing the Barsain police office, alleging police of not being keen to help ferry Chandra Narayan Yadav, a local resident, who suffered fatal gunshots in an altercation and subsequently succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.

Security has been tightened in the area.

The local have said the police did not provide their vehicle to take critically injured Yadav to hospital, though they asked for the help. They have maintained that Yadav could have been saved had police offered help for Yadav´s timely treatment.
