The alliance leaders met the president on Monday to hand over a memorandum and asked him to intervene in the current political deadlock over the prime minister´s resignation. [break]They also urged the president to take initiatives to end the current constitutional crisis.
"We urged the president to sack Prime Minister Bhattarai by exercising his constitutional powers," said Chairman of Sadbhawana Party (Anandi Devi) Sarita Giri, one of the Madhesi leaders who met the president on Monday.
According to Chairman of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (MPRF) Upendra Yadav, the Madhesi leaders told the president that a national consensus government should be formed through a round table conference of all parties.
In the memorandum handed over to the president, the Madhesi leaders have argued that the present "unconstitutional" government did not have the authority to announce a fresh election and that it is against the spirit of the interim constitution.
"How can Bhattarai continue to be in office after the dissolution of the parliament that elected him?" Yadav told media persons after the meeting.
The Madhesi leaders also accused the three major political parties -- UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML -- of plotting to dissolve the Constituent Assembly on May 27 without promulgating the new constitution.
"The major three political parties had hatched conspiracy to dissolve the CA," said Yadav, "And, a few leaders from the three parties are responsible for it."
In response, President Yadav told the Madhesi leaders that he is holding consultations with all the parties to encourage them to forge consensus.
"I have been holding consultations with all parties and will take initiative for national consensus," Yadav quoted the president as saying.
