Land dispute led to Dadeldhura killings: Police

DADELDHURA, June 3: The killing of seven people in Syande-9 has been attributed to a long-drawn land dispute.

Police said controversy over the ownership of an ancestral land plot led to a lethal fight between Beerjeet BK and his younger brother Gagan on Sunday evening and then to the murder of seven family members of both sides.[break]

Those killed included six children and Beerjeet´s wife. First Beerjeet reportedly beat Gagan´s son to death and Gagan avenged it with the murder of his brother´s wife. “Then each might have taken to killing other´s children,” said Assistant Inspector of Police Mahendrajung Shahi. “They have not been interrogated fully,” he added.

The wives of BK brothers had long been indulging in bitter fights over land. The conflict peaked after Gagan returned home from India a couple of months ago. The village, where the incident took place, is about 65 kilometers north-west of the district headquarters.
