DOLPA, July 1: Bhitti-Motipur Road Section in Dolpa, a mountainous district in Karnali province, has remained disrupted for around past three weeks, forcing commuters to precarious trips.

The route was closed after a landslide hit it at Bagdanda of Thulobheri Municipality about three weeks ago. The landslide debris has covered the road spreading to 10 meters. Due to this, commuters have no way except following a trail beneath the landslide debris to cross the road.

The disruption of route that serves as the major route to travel from Supani to Dunai and vice versa has caused inconvenience to locals who are using the Bhitti-Jufal route as its alternative which is relatively long, difficult and unsafe, according to one Amar Kathayat of Motipur.

Public motor vehicles meant for domestic transport services continue to operate their services along the unsafe route. It takes more time to reach Motipur via the Bhitti-Jufal route which is longer than the Bhitti-Motipur route and congested as well, said driver Sushil Kathayat.

Mules are used as the first mode of transporting goods to this mountainous district and the disruption of 'safe' route has caused problems in transportation as well.

Locals have complained that the local level was not serious about the issue and has not taken any measures to clear the highway and resume it.
