43 Nepali nationals succumbed to COVID-19 in foreign lands last week

KATHMANDU, Sept 13: As many as 43 Nepali nationals succumbed to COVID-19 last week in various foreign countries, according to the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA).

In Saudi Arabia alone, 41 Nepalis have died of COVID-19 since March. So far, 52 Nepali nationals have died of COVID-19 in Saudi Arabia.

Likewise, two COVID-19 related deaths of Nepali nationals in Qatar were also recorded last week.

With this, in 16 different countries, as many as 243 Nepali nationals have died of COVID-19 as of Saturday evening.

According to the Health Committee of NRNA, Nepali people died of COVID-19 in Spain, Poland, India, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia last week. So far, Nepalis in 40 different nations have contracted the virus.

The global COVID-19 death toll of Nepalis has reached 579 and the COVID-19 case tally stands at 90,767.

Similarly, as many as 61,710 Nepali migrant workers left stranded in various countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic have been repatriated so far.

Some 60 dead bodies of Nepali nationals are yet to be brought back to Nepal. As of Saturday evening, dead bodies of 300 Nepali people have already been repatriated to their families.
