192 Nepali nationals have succumbed to COVID-19 in foreign countries so far

KATHMANDU, Aug 23: As many as 192 Nepali nationals have succumbed to COVID-19 in 16 various countries so far, according to the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA).


This week, one Nepali died of the COVID-19 infection in Luxemburg.


As of Saturday, Nepali people in 38 countries have contracted the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Nepali nationals in 16 countries including the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arab, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Ireland, Japan, Turkey, the Netherlands, Sweden, India and South Africa have died of COVID-19.


Likewise, as many as 34,301 Nepali people in foreign countries have tested positive for the virus. Of the total infected, 93.5 percent i.e. 32,253 have recovered.



NRNA has also urged the government of Nepal to make the possible arrangements for those Nepali nationals left stranded abroad to return home at the earliest.


According to the latest data from the association, some 51,441 Nepali have already been repatriated through 327 chartered flights organized from 30 different countries. As many as 100,000 Nepali nationals are still waiting to return home in countries of the Middle-East.
