Altogether six teams, including two from Nepal, will participate in the tournament.[break]
According to the managing director of the Hotel Tiger Tops Yadhav Bantawa, all the teams have already arrived in Chitwan and the tournament will begin from Monday Morning.
Two new teams are included in this year´s event as four of the eight teams participated in the last edition pulled out their hand from the tournament. British Gurkha, Chivas Regal from Scotland, Afghanistan´s Afghani and Fentaz Sepoys of the UAE pulled out its name from the tournament while Genghis Khan of Mongolia and Raft Khukuri from England are the new teams in the tournament.
EFG of Switzerland is the defending champions of the tournament.
The tournament was started by the Tiger Tops owner Tops Resort Jim Edwards 30 years ago to entertain the tourists and his sons are giving continuity to it.
Lungthapa claims running trophy
Lungthapa Cooperative on Sunday claimed the men´s title of Tiloksingh Memorial Running Shield Football Tournament held at Niguradin, Taplejung for the third time in a row.
Lungthapa thrashed Singhapur 7-0 to take home the trophy permanently and bagged a purse of Rs 15,000.
The runner up Singhapur bagged Rs 10,000. Iwa Village Development Committee lifted the women´s trophy.
Iwa defeated Paramsingh High School, Niguradin 1-0. The winner bagged a cash prize of Rs 7,000 and running trophy while the runner up received 4,000.
Chaudhary wins cross-country
Ram Prasad Chaudhary secured first position in the Cross-country Race on Sunday organized by Nepal Sports Confederation.
Ravi Paswan and Chandrika Dhakal secured second and third position in the seven km road race.
The top three players bagged Rs 10,00, Rs 5,00 and Rs 3,000 respectively. Altogether 150 runners had participated in the event. All the participants were awarded with certificates.
The British School, Rato Bangala lift titles
The British School and Rato Bangala on Sunday lifted the titles of the First Inter A-Level Basketball Tournament.
In the boys´ section, British School came from behind to defeat Lumbini 44-35 for the title. Lumbini took the first quarter 14-6 and maintained the lead as both the teams scored 4 points each in the second quarter.
The British School then bounced back to take the third quarter 18-11 and the fourth 16-6.
In the girls´ section, Rato Bangala thrashed The British School 24-8. Niharika Pant of Rato Bangala was adjudged the most valuable player in the girls´ section and Aslesha Lissanevitch of The British School received the award for highest scorer.
In the boys´ section, Tshenlek Dorji of the British School was named the most valuable player and Bibash Maharjan of Ace College the highest scorer.
Double delight for NIMS
The boys´ and girls´ teams of host NIMS on Sunday entered the final of the Third Jiten Thakuri Memorial Inter-school Basketball Tournament in their respective categories.
NIMS will face Daffodil in both the finals. In the boys´ category, NIMS beat The Excelsior 54-40 as Bijay Lama scored 19 points.
Likewise, Sange Rapchel´s 20 points guided defending champions Daffodil to a 39-31 victory over Oasis. In the girls´ section, defending champion NIMS defeated Reliance 32-26 with 17 points from Srijana Khadka.
In another semifinal match, Daffodil thrashed Ganesh 33-15. Deli Tamang scored 11 points for the winning team.
Cosmic, Kotdevi into last eight
Cosmic and Kotdevi School on Sunday booked quarterfinal berths in the Sixth FECA Cup Inter-school Football Championship with victories in their respective matches.
Cosmic thrashed Manohara 7-1 in the match held at the Pepsi-Cola town planning ground, Kathmandu.
Ashish Shrestha scored four goals for Cosmic, Udip Rai scored two and Samir Thapa one. In another match, Kotdevi defeated Winsome 3-0. Khil KC scored a brace while Shiva Devkota added a third for the winning side. Likewise, Hebron defeated New Star 1-0 while Shramsheel beat Highland 3-0.
Wins for Dolphin, Tipling
Dolphin and Tipling School of Dhading registered wins in the 16th National Father Moran Memorial Invitational Football Tournament on Sunday.
Dolphin thrashed Eden Garden 6-0 with a hat-trick from Bibek Silwal.
Sunil Pariyar, Bikesh Lama and Dipesh Silwal added a goal each for the winning team in the match played at Godavari.
Meanwhile, Tipling School defeated host St Xavier´s 2-0. Min Thapa and Keman Tamang scored a goal each in Tipling´s victory.
TIA, Oasis enter quarters
The ´A´ team of host TIA and Oasis fixed their quarterfinal berths on Sunday in the Ninth TIA Inter-school Basketball Tournament in the boys´ category.
TIA ´A´ thrashed Universal 58-10 with 15 points from Tsiring Namdul Thakuri.
Likewise, Purna Magar´s 20 points guided Oasis to a 39-24 victory over Minar.
In other matches, Gyan Niketan registered a narrow 37-36 win over Valley Public, Deneb beat Angel World 32-13, Daffodil overcame Central Public 29-25, TIA B defeated Central Public 48-33 and Loyalty beat Bishnumati 29-16.
In the girls´ section, New Summit registered a 20-6 win over AIA.
Host Khadbari, Deurali into semis
The host Khadbari Youth Club, Deurali Club of Dhankuta and Armed Police Force (APF) of Jhapa on Sunday advanced into the semifinal of Khadbari Gold Cup Football Tournament being held in Khadbari, Sankhusawa.
The host defeated Rajbas Club of Sunsari 5-3 in a tiebreaker following a 3-3 draw in the regulation time.
Coming from a goal deficit, Dilbahadur Tamang netted in the 17th minute for host to cancel the eighth minute lead taken by Rajbas through Avinas Tamang. Roshan Magar and Surendra Tamang scored during second half for the host.
Similarly, Manoj Baraili scored for Rajbas and they got another goal as gift when Khadbari played netted an own goal. APF defeated Tumlingtar Club in sudden death after regulation time of the match finished in a 1-1 draw.
Deurali Club defeated Sanyukta Yuva Team 2-0 with a goal both goals coming from Sachin Limbu. Dangihat got direct entry into the semis after Taplejung gave walkover.
