KATHMANDU, Nov 17: National Sports Council (NSC) on Wednesday expanded the new executive committee of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and nominated immediate past President Binay Raj Pandey as its patron.

“NSC has decided to expand the ad hoc committee of the association to facilitate smooth functioning,” reads a press release issued by the NSC.[break]

NSC had dissolved the Pandey-led executive committee of the CAN and appointed UCPN (Maoist) Central Committee Member Tanka Angbuhang as its president on October 26. NSC had claimed that they were forced to dissolve the Pandey-committee as it had not called its general assembly despite NSC deadlines.

“NSC leadership had proposed it (post of patron) and I heard NSC appointed me today. However, I don´t know the details,” said Pandey.

Meanwhile, NSC has appointed Upendra Bhattarai as CAN vice president. Bhattarai was vice president in the Pandey-led committee and he is supposed to be a close ally of Pandey.

Jay Kumar Nath Shah, the founder president of the CAN, has been appointed as the advisor while former national team captain Pawan Agrawal, Niranjan Rijal, Deepak Koirala, Dharma Sundar Bajracharya, Kiran Samsher Rana, Diwakar Ghale and Thakur Pratap Thapa have been appointed as member in the newly formed ad hoc committee.
