The constitution of Nepal empowers the CIAA to focus on corruption control. Following constitutional provisions, the commission enforces punitive measures, prevents corruption, promotes good governance, and strengthens institutional capacity.
Article 239 of the Constitution defines the CIAA’s duties, responsibilities, and powers. It authorizes the CIAA to investigate and take legal action against public officials involved in corruption or abuse of authority.
If a public office holder engages in corruption against the law, the CIAA can file or facilitate the filing of a case against the individual and other involved parties in the competent court of law.
According to its 34th annual report, the CIAA and its subordinate offices registered 36,186 complaints in the fiscal year 2080/81 BS, including 26,918 new cases and 9,268 carried over from the previous year. The commission resolved 27,714 of these complaints.
