The bus, traveling from Chisapani to Banepa, fell into a gorge killing Sita Thapa (30), Dil Maya Tamang (55) and Anju Shrestha (40), all inhabitants of Hokse- 7.[break]
Thapa´s husband, Jaya Ram Thapa, who was driving the jeep, and their 4 year old son, James, have been seriously injured. James is currently undergoing treatment at B&B Hospital while the other eight are being treated at Dhulikhel Hospital.
According to the in-charge of the Palanchowk Bhagwati Police Post, sub inspector Naresh KC, the jeep that was carrying 12 crates of tomatoes, 6 cans of milk and 23 passengers, fell seven hundred meters off the road.
"According to some of the injured, the jeep skidded back while the driver was shifting gear to go up a slope," sub inspector KC said.
Some of the passengers who were perched on the top of the jeep managed to save themselves by jumping off. Used mainly for transporting goods, the jeeps in rural Kavre often carry passengers as well.
