National Campus dominates 3-on-3 basketball

KATHMANDU, June 27: National Campus ´A´ dominated the third day of the Nobel Cup 2nd National 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament winning all three of its matches in the men´s category on Monday.



National ´A´ defeated Premier 18-8 in their first match of the day at the Dasharath Stadium covered hall. National took a seven-point lead with an 8-1 win in the first period and took the second 10-7 to register victory. In the next match, National edged past its ´B´ team 15-13. The ´A´ team took the first period 6-5 and then won 9-8 in the second.[break]



VS Niketan was the third team to lose to National ´A´. National took the first period 10-7 and the second 7-4 for a 17-11 win.



Defending champion Trinity thrashed Unity Boys 15-5 in its first match. Trinity won both the periods 4-2, 11-3 en route to victory. Trinity then registered a narrow margin 14-13 win over Brooklyn in its second match. Trinity took the first period 10-8 and lost the second 5-4.



Newcomer in the tournament, Liverpool had mixed results as it lost 16-8 against the host Nobel ´B´ and received a walkover from Kirtipur. Nobel took the first period 8-3 and the second 8-5 to defeat Liverpool.



Likewise, Platinum defeated Xavier International in extra time but lost to G4 Group. Xavier took the first period 7-6 but conceded the second 9-8 to Platinum which leveled the scores. In extra time, Platinum scored two points which was enough for victory. In another match, G4 defeated Platinum 12-10. G4 took the first period 5-3 and drew the second 7-7. Ideal Model School defeated Platinum 16-14. A two-point lead following a 7-5 win in the first period was enough for Ideal to seal victory as the second period ended in a 9-9 draw.



Prime defeated the host Nobel ´A´ 20-18 as it took the first period 10-6 and lost the second 12-10. In another match, Prime overcame National ´B´ 14-12 in extra time. Both the teams were level at 11-11 at the end of regular time as the first and second periods ended 7-7, 4-4 respectively. Prime then scored 3-1 in extra time to win the match.



White House ´A´ thrashed Xavier International 16-7 winning both the periods 6-3, 10-4 respectively. Meanwhile, Unity Boys and VSN ´A´ were announced winners as Brooklyn and Cyrus gave walkovers to their respective opponents.



In the women´s category, the host Nobel ´B´ registered a 13-6 win over Xavier International. Nobel scored 6-4 in the first period and took the second 7-2. NASA ´A´ defeated Rato Bangala 8-3 as it took both the periods 5-3, 3-0 respectively. In the last match of the women´s category, NIMS thrashed Texas ´B´ 17-0. NIMS took the first period 8-0 and the second 9-0 for a comprehensive victory.



Kathmandu Valley wins


KATHMANDU: A hat-trick from Dawa Thumba Sherpa helped Kathmandu Valley Higher School register a 3-0 victory over Bright Horizon Children Home in the Coca-Cola Cup Inter-school National Football Tournament on Monday. In another match held at the ANFA Complex, Satdobato, Open House School defeated Asian Public School 1-0. Likewise, Akbar Lama scored the lone goal as Bal Bikash School defeated Bright Angels School 1-0. In the last match of the day, Tika Bidya Ashram beat Scholars Academy 3-1 with goals from Pravin Bhujel, Krishna Khadka and Kush Thapa. Abhishek Khadka scored a consolation goal for Scholars.
