Nat'l 3on3 basketball from Saturday

KATHMANDU, June 22: Nepal Basketball Association (NeBA) is all set to organize Nobel Cup 2nd National U-19 3-on-3 Basketball Championship from June 25 to 30 at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium.



The NeBA is expecting the participation of 40 teams in the men´s category and 20 teams in the women´s category, NeBA vice-president and technical director Narendra Thapa said during a press conference on Wednesday. [break]



Trinity and Morgan are the defending champions of the tournament in the men´s and women´s category respectively.



Nepal has achieved some success in 3-on-3 basketball in the international level as well.



In the past, the junior youth girl´s team of Nepal had defeated Kuwait in the Asian Youth Games in Singapore while the senior men´s team had beaten Qatar in the Asian Indoor Games in Vietnam.



The 3-on-3 basketball is better known as street basketball. In this format of the game, a team consists of four players and a coach. The game is played on a half court in two periods of five minutes each. This championship is a test for the new rules of FIBA33.



The points system in the game is different than regular basketball tournaments as the players will receive only two points for a shot from outside, three points semi-circle line and receive one point from thee inner semi-circle.



Thapa further added that this type of tournament will help to find out new individual talents.



There is no cash prize in the tournament except for the Most-Valuable-Player of the tournament in both men´s and women´s categories.
