He has claimed that he is an Indian national and not a citizen of Nepal as alleged by Indian Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh. He, however, added that his roots are in Nepal. [break]
Singh had alleged that Balkrishna is a Nepali citizen and holds a Nepali passport. Singh had also claimed that Balkrishna committed a crime in Nepal and fled to India.
“I was born in India in Haridwar, my parents are from Nepal. Many Nepali people are born in India. The Indian constitution gives us a right to be citizen of this country. I am Indian according to the Constitution of India. I was educated in India and am working in India,” said Balkrishna while addressing a press conference in Haridwar on Tuesday.
He claimed he was badly beaten up by the Delhi Police in the crackdown and that many people were still missing.
Balkrishna, however, refused to reply when asked about allegations of having fled Nepal after committing a crime.
Meanwhile, the office of the Indian prime minister has ordered an inquiry into complaints against Balkrishna. PMO officials said that an anonymous complaint was received three days ago against Balkrishna.
