KATHMANDU, May 12: An exchange of blows between two US nationals and the promoters of an orphanage in the capital has required reconciliation efforts by cops, charity workers and even diplomats for two days.

Scott McLennan and Aris Stern made their peace with Prem KC, the promoter of Asahaya Balbalika Kendra at Chapali Bhadrakali, on Thursday following a clash in connection with aid that the Americans provided the orphanage some three years ago. [break]

According to police, Prem KC and his associates scuffled with McLennan and Stern when the latter came to the orphanage to take back belongings like cots, utensils and mattresses.

Police said the two US nationals accused KC of shifting the orphanage to Chapali from Budanilkanta without any notice and even bypassing them to bring in another donor. Meanwhile, KC said that he sought out another donor after the Americans went out of contact for a long time.

Both the Americans and KC´s group sustained minor injuries during the scuffle. They agreed to settle their dispute in the presence of US embassy representatives and human right activists at Metropolitan Police Circle Maharajgunj.
