SINDHUPALCHOWK, Oct12: A newborn that was found abandoned in bushes with its placenta attached is critically ill. It has not been able to get proper treatment due to the lack of money.

According to the District Child Welfare Committee, Sindhupalchwok, the baby was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment. After recovering the baby from the bush, locals had rushed it to the primary health post of Barabise. Next day, it was taken to Dhulikhel Hospital for further treatment but the hospital referred the newborn to a better-equipped hospital.

Then the newborn was taken to Siddhi Smriti Hospital, Bhaktapur where it hasn't been able to receive proper treatment due to financial problem.

On Sept 19, the newborn was found in a bush at Ghumthang village of Barabise Municipality. Police suspect that it must have been abandoned to hide the illegitimate birth. “We are facing a financial crisis for the treatment of the baby,” reported Rewati Raman Nepal, Information Management Officer.

He further added that since the parents of the child are yet to be identified, a local patron has been assigned. Muna Shrestha, a local has been taking care of the baby immediately after the baby was found.

According to the doctors at the hospital, the health of the newborn, which has been diagnosed with meningitis, is deteriorating day by day.
“As per the doctors the head of child is swollen and its other body parts are underdeveloped,” said Muna, adding, “They have advised an operation.”

Muna, along with other locals, is running a campaign to collect aid for the treatment of the newborn. It is said that a huge amount might be required for its treatment.
