Obama, Adiga win prizes at British Book Awards

KATHMANDU, April 4: US President Barack Obama won the biography prize for his memoir Dreams* From My Father at the British Book Awards in London Friday, BBC reported.



Aravind Adiga won ´Author of the Year´ award for his Booker Prize-winning novel The White Tiger. Obama was also a contender for the award for his best-seller, The Audacity of Hope.



Obama fought off competition from Paul O´Grady and Dawn French to take the biography prize, BBC said.



Kate Summerscale won ´non-fiction´ award and ´Book of the Year´ for her Victorian murder mystery, The Suspicions of Mr Whicher; Stephenie Meyer took home ´Children´s Book of the Year´ for Breaking Dawn; Swedish author Stieg Larsson posthumously won the ´Crime Thriller of the Year´ award for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo; and Sebastian Faulks won the ´Popular Fiction´ award for his James Bond story, Devil May Care.
