KATHMANDU, Aug 9: The Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) formally admitted the newly-appointed Bhatta of Pashupatinath, B.S Binaya Adiga to the main Pashupatinath Temple today.
Gourishankar Parajuli, the head of the cultural preservation division of the PADT, said that Bhatta Adiga, who duly entered the Pashupatinath temple, was given Diksha by the Chief Bhatta of Pashupatinath, Ganesh Bhatta.
Preparations underway to reopen Pashupatinath Temple
The newly-appointed Bhatta entered the Pashupatinath Temple according to the rituals of various deities of the Pashupatinath Temple area. After the appointment, Bhatta Adiga stayed in secret for five days.
Bhatta Adiga was approved by the PADT on the recommendation of the main Bhatta Coordinator of the Vidvat Parishad.
Adiga from a Brahmin family in South India was appointed as the priest of Pashupatinath Temple.
Ramakanta Bhatta, the priest of Pashupatinath Temple, had resigned from the post some four months ago citing health reasons.
