Deuba expressed his dissatisfaction over the “stubbornness” of Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Paudel and party President Sushil Koirala´s lack of trust in him. [break]
“How could one believe that the parties that issued whip not to vote for a candidate for 16 rounds of voting could ask its lawmakers to cast vote for same candidate in the 17th round?” questioned Deuba. “I would surely have won prime ministerial election had the party fielded my candidacy.”
Deuba was speaking at a press meet organized by Nepal Press Union in Tansen.
Deuba complained that party president Koirala did not trust him even as he proposed his prime ministerial candidacy at the party´s central working committee meeting after getting positive indications from both the Maoists and the UML. “I would surely have won the election,” he further said, adding: “But no one listened to me.”
Deuba argued that it would be wrong to launch a protest against the newly-formed government in a hurry. “I have been prime minister several times. So I won´t protest against the current government. It may suit others to do so but for me it does not,” he further said.
Deuba also said that NC will play an important role in concluding peace process and promulgating the new constitution. He said that NC would not accept Maoist-UML agreement to form separate force of the Maoist combatants.
“This is something to be decided by the Special Committee, not unilaterally by UML and Maoists,” he added.
