Yet another loss for Nepal U-19

SYLHET, Jan 27: Nepal U-19 cricket team suffered a second consecutive loss by 145 runs in the practice series against Bangladesh U-19 here on Thursday. Nepal U-19, preparing for the ACC U-19 Elite Cup scheduled to be held in Thailand from February 1 to 10, have lost the first match of the series by 10 wickets.



On Thursday, Nepal were all out for 66 runs in 28.5 overs chasing the 212 runs target set by Bangladesh at the Sylhet Divisional Stadium. Nepal lost their last seven wickets for a mere seven run to face the wide margin loss.[break]



Earlier, Bangladesh U-19 were asked to bat first by Nepal after winning the toss. Bangladesh U-19 put up 211/9 in the allotted 50 overs.



Nepal U-19 were expected to uplift their batting performance in the second match of the practice series but lost the wicket of opener Faizal Khan early. Khan was run out for four runs while skipper Prithu Baskota added just one run to continue his failure.



Opener Subash Khakurel struck 23 runs. Khakurel played 52 balls and struck four boundaries. Nayeem Islam showed Khakurel the way to pavilion after trapping him caught and bowled.



Jobber Hussein rattled the Nepali innings. Naresh Budhayer and Sagar Pun took Nepal´s score to 60 runs mark but Hussien bowled Pun out. Vice-captain Rahul Kumar BK, Krishna Karki and Avinash Karn gave away their wickets to the man of the match Hussien without adding single run. Pradeep Airee remained in the crease only for a boundary.



Budhayer spent 76 minutes in the crease and played 54 balls to strike 15 runs before getting out while Bhuwan Karki was run out for one run to end innings.



From the Nepalese side, Avinash Karn bowled beautifully to restrict Bangladesh U-19 innings. He claimed four wickets including three top-order batsmen.



Karn bowled 10 overs and conceded 53 runs claiming four wickets while Karki bowled nine overs and gave away 19 runs with a maiden over. Nepali spinners Rahul Kumar BK and Bhuwan Karki took two wickets each.



Bangladesh batsmen Mosadek Hossain scored 47 runs off 81 balls and Tauheed Tariq struck 55 runs off 60 balls to resurrect Bangladesh U-19 from the point of 42/3 to much better stage. Sharier Suman added 31 runs to guide Bangladesh above the 200 runs mark.



Third match to be Twenty20



The third and last match between Nepal U-19 and Bangladesh U-19 will be a Twenty20 match rather than a 50-over match. Nepali team requested for the shorter version of the game as Nepal team has to travel seven hours after the match to reach Dhaka and catch Thailand flight. The T20 match will be played on Saturday.
