Strikes paralyze life in East region, Chitwan

ILAM, Dec 1: Life in Ilam has been paralyzed due to strike enforced by the Federal Limbuwan State Council (FLSC) associated with Federal Democratic National Forum.



Passengers have been stranded on the way when short-and-long-route vehicles have not been operated due to the general strike called by the Forum in nine eastern districts putting for 10-point demands.[break]



The demands put forward by the Forum include mobilization of revenue raised from Limbuwan in Limbuwan province, ending foreign interference, guarantee of ethnic representation in each body of Limbuwan region.



The Council has announced strike in Ilam, Jhapa, Taplejung, Terhathum, Dhankuta, Morang, Sunsari and Sankhuwasabha districts under the Limbuwan region on December 1.



The bandh´s effect is all-pervasive, according to RSS correspondent in Taplejung. The Council has been staging phase wise agitation to pile pressure to have their demands addressed since November 26.



Meanwhile, families and relatives of the deceased and workers called Chitwan strike demanding details about the death be made public stating that a worker died in police custody in a mysterious way.



Construction worker Som Bahadur Darai of Ratnanagar mysteriously died in police custody in Area Police Office in Ratnanagar on last Asoj.



Means of transportation, factories and bazaar have been in operation from early in the morning due to bandh enforcement. However, educational institutions are smoothly running as usual.



Bandh enforces accused police of killing Darai by giving him excessive torture. They demonstrated torch rally yesterday evening to make bandh a success.



The local administration has recommended the centre to provide the family of deceased with Rs. 500,000 as compensation.



Meanwhile, officials at Chitwan national park held three persons along with rhino´s horn from eastern region Manahari-2, Sunachuri.



A patrol team comprising locals, representatives of Madhyabarti users group and national park officials took them with rhino´s horn, informed Assistant Protection Officer Ganesh Panta.
