The SLRP has been enforcing the banda demanding that the citizenship distribution, and voter registration process be stopped until the agitating fringe parties´ demands regarding the Constituent Assembly elections were addressed.[break] The SLRP has also demanded that the local authorities should release its caders who were arrested in the course of enforcing the banda.
Vehicles remain off the road while businesses, shops, factories and educational institutions remain closed in eastern districts -- Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Dhankuta, Sankhuwasahba, Morang, Sunsari and Terathum.
Likewise, caders of the SLRP torched a pick-up at Charpani in Jhapa on Monday on the charge of ignoring the banda.
The pick-up (Na 4 Kha 6559) was heading towards Birtamod from Biratnagar when it came under incendiary attack at around 4:00 in the morning, said police, adding, the vehicle was completely destroyed by the fire. The vehicle was heading for Birtamod to bring vegetables. After setting fire to the vehicle, the attackers fled the scene, according to police.
Meanwhile, the SLRP has declared that they will not distrup operation of academic institutions in Jhapa district from Tuesday saying that schools are a zone of peace and children should not be deprived of schooling.
At an all-party meeting organized by Sambad Group and Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Jhapa at Birtamod on Monday, SLRP representatives expressed commitment that the group will not obstruct the running of schools from Tuesday, reported a member of Sambad Group.
SLRP representatives have also assured that they will ask their higher-ups to withdraw the strike soon, said the Sambad member, adding, that the local authority has also vowed to address their demand.
