SPORTS BRIEFS: WISPA from Friday

KATHMANDU, Nov 9: Nepal Squash Rackets Association (NSRA) is all set to host the Women International Squash Player Association (WISPA) Professional Championship on November 12 and 13 at NSRA Squash Academy, Satdobato.



According to a press statement issued by NSRA the event will feature nine professional women squash players from seven different nations.[break]



 Three women players from the host and one each from India, South Africa, England, Switzerland, Pakistan and New Zealand will participate in the competition.



The tournament which carries a cash prize of $ 8,000 has been sponsored by Tom Tarintino from Philadelphia USA. As stated by the organizers, the motive of the tournament is not only to arouse interest in squash in the country but also to groom future players.



Solu trail from Nov 11


KATHMANDU: Sport Adventure Peak Trek and Expedition Pvt Limited is organizing the 3rd Solukhumbu Trail 2010, a 300km race from November 11. The 13-day race will begin from Jiri and finish at Lukla, said Da Chhiri Dawa Sherpa, the coordinator of the organizing committee amidst a media conference in the capital on Tuesday.



Altogether 59 runners from four countries including hosts Nepal (7), Switzerland (2), France (49) and Greece (1) will participate in the event. The runners need to run until 5,500m in the race.



The top three players will bag a purse of Rs 50,000, Rs 40,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively. The expected costs of the tournament is € 40,000.



Toyota Football Frenzy begins Wednesday



KATHMANDU: Kathmandu College of Management (KCM) student´s council is organizing Toyota Football Frenzy 2010, inter-college 5-A-side football tournament from Wednesday at the Dasharath Stadium covered hall.



Altogether 20 colleges are participating in the 10-day long event to be held in the league cum knockout basis, stated the organizers amidst a press conference in the capital. The participating teams are divided into four groups with five teams each in a group. Top two teams from each group will compete in the quarterfinals. The winners will bag a purse of Rs 20,000. The expected cost of the tournament is Rs 283,000.
