The major highway that connects the Capital to the rest of the country has been in dilapidated condition due to trucks and tippers ferrying sands and boulders up to 24 tons each. [break]
The poor condition of the road has led to increased number of accidents and traffic snarls along the highway. Passengers traveling along the highway collect bitter experiences every time they pass through the torn road.
Police said those vehicles will be handed over to the Department of Transport Management for necessary action.
The government estimates that it will cost around Rs 1.5 billion for the maintenance of the section of the highway.
The 16-km Nagdhunga-Naubise section of the highway has been damaged to such an extent that maintenance alone will not be sufficient to fix the road condition, according to concerned officials.
