NAWALPARASI, Aug 25: The water level in the Gandak Barrage has crossed the danger mark and reached the year´s highest mark.

The rise in water level has further put the spurs that are already in a poor state at high risk, inviting danger of embankment breaching, said Gandak Struggle Committee spokesman Prem Chand Gupta.

He said the barrage´s spur no. 12 has been already damaged and spurs no. 2 and 3 of the dam on the Nepali side are in very poor condition which has posed a threat to the locals living in the area.

The flooded Narayani River has started breaching the land between spurs no. 2 and 3 and it could breach the dam at any time, according to Semari Division Office of Irrigation in Nawalparasi.
