Water level in Bagmati River crosses danger level

KATHMANDU, Aug 26: The water level in Bagmati River has crossed the danger level at the Gaurighat water measuring station in Kathmandu. 

The water level at Gaurighat water measuring station has crossed the danger level as of at 2:45 PM. The water level is continuing to rise, according to officials.

The Flood Monitoring Hydrological Forecast Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has issued a notice on Monday. The DHM urged caution in riverine areas up to Bagmati-Manohara Dobhan due to rising water levels. Heavy rainfall has been affecting the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas since this afternoon.

In the last one hour, moderate rainfall has occurred in the Barpak area of Gorkha, and additional rainfall is expected in that area. The DHM has issued a caution notice that the water level in rivers such as Budhigandaki and Daraudi as well as nearby rivers, may increase. 

In the last three hours, there has been moderate rain in Dhungre, Gobre and nearby areas of Sindhupalchok. The DHM has urged people to take precautions as the water level may rise in Melamchi, Indravati and other small rivers as well as the risk of landslides on steep terrains.
