Curfew in Bara to transport fuel to capital

BIRGUNJ, March 13: In a bid to transport petroleum products to the capital amidst ongoing strikes, local authorities in Bara district clamped a night-time curfew along the East-West highway.



The curfew will remain in place between 10 p.m. on Friday and 4 a.m. on Saturday along the Parawanipur-Amalekhgunj section of the highway and one kilometer area on either side of the highway.



The curfew will allow the authorities to transport petroleum products from Raxaul of India to Nepal Oil Corporation depot at Amalekhgunj.



The curfew is being clamped after protests by Tharu groups intensified at Jeetpur section of the highway in Bara. Tharu protesters had set fire to two motorcycles, besides vandalizing several others. A protester was seriously injured during clash with Bara businessmen, who protested against the prolonged banda, on Friday.



Meanwhile, District Administration Office in Chitwan has imposed curfew along the East-West Highway from Lothar bridge to Ramnagar of Bharatpur Municipality and one kilometer on either side of the road. The curfew will remain in place from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday and from 10 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday.



In Nawalparasi too, curfew has been clamped between 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday morning from Daunne bazaar in the east to Rupandehi´s border in the west.
