2 held for carrying out anti-poll activities

PAANCHTHAR, Oct 25: Police on Friday arrested two leaders of Federal Limbuwan State Council (FLSC) from district headquarters Phidim for allegedly carrying out anti-election activities in the district.



The arrested have been identified as Sangam Khanal, central committee member of the council and Lawahang Chemjong, district head of the council, according to the police. Federal Limbuwan State Council is a member of the 33-party alliance led by CPN-Maoist. Police arrested them from a hotel while they were planning to carry out election activities. [break]



Meanwhile, the police also tried to arrest local leaders of CPN-Maoist but couldn´t as the latter were inside the party office. Police said, “We could not arrest them as we are not authorized to arrest them from the party office. We have, however, seized their motorbikes.”



Inspector Sanjeev Khadka said they arrested FLSC leaders as they were carrying out anti-election activities.



Meanwhile, the council has warned of stringent protests. “We will launch stringent protests if our leaders are not released immediately,” said district secretary of the council Sagar Kerung.
