"They were brought into interrogation, and they also signed an agreement with the investigation team to appear before it whenever necessary," Nepal Police spokesman DIG Bigyan Raj Sharma said at a press conference at police headquarters. [break]
According to Sharma, DSPs Arjun Chand and Ramesh Chand were interrogated after calls made by them were located among call details for the phone number allegedly used by Babbu, the alleged mastermind in the killing.
He also said that DSP Surendra Bahadur Singh seems to have called up Babbu while helping police with investigations after Babbu was ´confirmed´ as the mastermind behind the killing. "However, we will question him if necessary," he added.
Myrepublica.com on Thursday published a report on phone calls to Babbu by the three incumbent DSPs and former DSP Jagadish Chand. Jagadish, who has been working at a private hospital in the capital following his retirement from the police, has remained out of contact since Wednesday.
Spokesman Sharma said that police are looking for Jagadish, adding that he ´absconded´ while he was under surveillance. "We will bring him under investigation at any cost," he added.
Nepal Police will also investigate lapses, if any, that may have helped DSP Jagadish ´abscond´ while under surveillance, according to Sharma. "We will also look into this aspect," he said.
DSP Jagadish seems to have made dozens of phone calls to Babbu and was also said to have met him in person several times while the latter was staying in the capital to allegedly plan the media magnet´s murder.
Meanwhile, police took in one more suspect, Kishor Khadka, who allegedly disposed off the weapon used in the murder. Sharma believes that the latest arrest could take the investigations to a new level.
