Passenger Sudarshan Bhatta, 18, of Suda VDC-6 who was seriously injured, died while being treated at Mahakali Zonal Hospital. The bus driver´s help, who has yet to be identified, died on the spot.
Birendra Pathak, 19, of Bhimdutta Municipality-4 who was seriously injured, has been taken to Bareli, India, for treatment. Similarly, Dilli Ram Pokharel, 49, of Kohalpur, Banke, whose both legs were broken in the accident, is receiving treatment at Nepalgunj Medical College. Seven injured are being treated at Mahakali Zonal Hospital.
The bus that was overspeeding hit a roadside railing and overturned on the East-West Highway. Sunil Gautam, the driver, fled the scene immediately after the accident. However, police later detained him.
Three women, who were cutting grass by the side of the highway, narrowly escaped harm, according to Inspector Siddharaj Neupane. The driver sped the bus past a traffic checkpoint without bothering to stop for an entry into the traffic logbook.
