20 injured in police action

BANEPA, June 7: As many as 20 persons were injured in Kavre on Monday after the police disrupted a sit-in stage protest program organized to protest the death of a local youth.



Binod Pahari, 21, a local of Panuti-12, was killed when a tipper (Na 4 Kha 517) hit him at Dhulikhel along Araniko Highway on Sunday.[break]



Police even fired bullets in air and resorted to baton charge to disrupt the protest program organized at District Police Office, Kavre.



Locals and kin of Pahari had organized a sit-in protest demanding that the police take stern action against the driver and the owner of the tipper at the earliest. The locals have accused the police of delaying in the investigation.



Meanwhile, police said that owner of tipper Bhuwan Shrestha of Baireni, Dhading was on his way to Kavre.



Sunita Nagarkoti, Sudharsan Pahari and Shyam Sundar Pahari, among others, of Panauti-12, Khopasi are injured in the incident. Kedar Duwal and Krishna Bahadur of the same place are reported to be in critical condition.



The injured persons are receiving treatment at Dhulikhel hospital.
