KATHMANDU, April 1: Garbage disposal in the capital was obstructed for the third consecutive day on Thursday after the agitating locals of Dhading and officials of Solid Waste Management and Resource Mobilization Center (SWMRMC) failed to strike a deal.

“We requested the agitating villagers to call off their strike, but they did not show flexibility in striking a deal,” said Rabin Man Shrestha, chief of environment department at Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC). [break]

The locals of Chhatre Deurali VDC in Dhading district, who claim to be the most affected by garbage dumping at the Aletar landfill site in Nuwakot, have been demanding that the government construct roads to their village, provide potable water and create employment opportunities to unemployed local youths.

Five garbage trucks have been stranded on the way to the Aletar landfill site.
