Among those arrested, 10 are women and seven men. With this, the total number of Tibetans illegally crossing into Nepali territory has reached 51 in seven months.
They are currently being detained at District Police Office, Charikot. SP Dhiraj Pratap Singh said they would be handed over to the department of immigration in Kathmandu on Monday due to holiday on Saturday and Sunday.
The arrested Tibetans wanted to go to India via Nepal to meet their spiritual leader Dalai Lama, police said.
It takes four to five days for the Tibetans to arrive at Lamabagar and they get arrested once they cross into Nepal. The number of such Tibetans has increased in recent times, according to police.
“The Tibetans are coming in huge numbers. We are having difficulty to deal with them due to the lack of lingua franca,” said Singh, “We are investigating why the number is increasing.”
