DANG, June 16: Four people of Deukhuri stranded on the island of Rapti river have been rescued.
Three persons from Lamahi Municipality and one from Rajpur Rural Municipality, who went to the island to graze their livestock, were stranded after the swollen river flooded the area on Tuesday.
Sabitra Yadav, Radhe Yadav, Manram Chaudhary and Ganesh Yadav, who were stranded in the island since Tuesday were rescued on Wednesday morning. They were rescued via a boat by teams of Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police. “They were stranded after flood hit the area,” said Chief District Officer Dirghanarayan Poudel, “All of them have been rescued.”
Although information was received last night, it was hard to rescue them which is why they were forced to stay the night there. “We were informed about the incident last night,” CDO Poudel said, “We tried to rescue them yesterday but it was not possible to rescue them.” There is a shed on the island where they spent the night.
The island is surrounded by the Rapti River. They crossed the river to reach there but could not return due to high flow of water.
