Food, oh glorious food! With so many restaurants around town, there are just as many mouthwatering delicacies that you can enjoy. Every restaurant has it’s own specialty. And then there are some food items that you simply shouldn’t miss out on. We bring to you some of our current favorites.
Here’s what Miss World 2019 Toni-Ann Singh is doing in Helambu...
Twakka Makai at GG Machhan
This tastes like the chatpate we all like to take a bite from time and again but it's healthier and hygienic. Fried corn is toasted with spices and a dash of lemon. The taste of fresh coriander does magic to your taste buds. This is the perfect dish for hot summer days when you want something to snap you back into action.
Jhol Momo at Le Trio
If you haven't had jhol momo at Le Trio then we recommend you do so as soon as you can. Though this is a perfect option for cold winter days, it's also a good option for the rainy summer days. Trust us, you won't be able to stop raving about the tangy soup that comes with the momos.
Suimai Open Momo at Ghangri Café
Ghangri Café is one of the best places to have momos. The momos here are served with three different kinds of chutneys – tomato, chili, and a peanut sauce – and the idea is to put all the different kinds of chutneys in the little holes at the top and let the flavors take over.
Flaming Wings at ToyoKaraage
Have it at your own risk declares the promotional poster. Flaming wings are flaming hot, so much so that you might want to keep a bottle of water by your side. But these are too good to not try at least once. You might want to ask them to go easy on the sauce but don't – they are so much better when your taste buds are on fire.
French Fries at BK's
BK's is very famous for the French fries they serve. They have different kinds of dips or sauces that you can enjoy according to what you are in the mood for. Try the devil sauce or the special sauce and enjoy some delicious fries the next time you're in Thamel.
Chicken Kebab at Tasneem's Kitchen
The food at Tasneem's Kitchen is just yum. Everything on the menu is simply delicious but the chicken kebab is something you should not miss out on while you're there. It's cooked to perfection and simply luscious. Combined with the mint chutney they serve with it, there's nothing that can beat the chicken kebab at this cozy and delightful little place.
Crispy Chicken Burger at Nina's Café
Nina's café serves what is probably the best burger in K-town. And the crispy chicken burger deserves a special mention. The only thing is that you might have to share it with a friend since the burgers here are huge and unless you are very, very hungry you might not be able to finish one all by yourself.
Mashed Potatoes (with melted cheese) at New Orleans
Who doesn't love potatoes? And what can beat mashed potatoes with melted cheese on top? Do yourself a favor and stop by at New Orleans at Thamel to enjoy this lovely dish. A spoonful of potatoes will just melt in your mouth and even when you're full, you can't help but eat some more. Yes, it's that good.
Nepali Thali at Zaika
If you are craving authentic Nepali food, then Zaika is the place to be. Though most of their dishes are good, their Nepali Thali is just right. The only downside is that they won't give you extra helpings like in other Thakali places so order an extra plate of rice if their serving isn't enough for you.
Potato Skins at Roadhouse Café
Roadhouse café is famous for its pizzas but there are other dishes that are really nice as well. The chefs deserve a round of applause for the amazing potato skins they whip up in no time at all. This dish is light yet filling and simply delicious. Try a plateful and Roadhouse Café will be so much more than pizzas from thereon.
