Province one transforming into paragliding hub

Stunning tourism destination, Pokhara, is not just the capital of Gandaki Province. It is also a commercial hub for adventure tourism and activities like paragliding. Every year, an avalanche of international tourist enjoys the surreal feeling of paragliding from Sarangkot Hill of Pokhara. Tourist can fly for several minutes enjoying the majestic view of Machhapuchhre Mountain Range and the Phewa Lake.

Having noticed the possibilities of adventure tourism in province three, youths of Pokhara have initiated paragliding course at ward 8 of Belka Municipality in Udayapur District. The course is organized by Nepal Paragliding and Hang Gliding Association. Four students participated in the first batch of paragliding course. Three of them were from Pokhara and one from Palpa. This is the first paragliding school operated by the government and is the third operated by ‘Nepal Paragliding School’. Since the course is comparatively cheaper, people wanting  to be a paragliding pilot are attracted to this school.

According to Ram Rai, president of Budha Subba Paragliding Nepal Pvt. Ltd, “The beginner’s course is being conducted at Boptang of Udayapur. Operating the advance course in Dharan is on the pipeline. Seven students have enrolled for beginner’s course. Whereas, advance course (tendon) will be introduced in Dharan from January. “15 students have already enrolled for the tendon course. This is an opportunity for Udayapur and Sunsari to be a hub for paragliding training,” said President Rai.
