Aayusha Pyakurel bags ‘first runner-up title’ at Miss Glam World 2023

KATHMANDU, June 28: Aayusha Pyakurel, 21, a student of Journalism and English Literature from Chitwan, Nepal, secured the first runner-up position at the prestigious Miss Glam World pageant held on June 21 at Le Meridien Hotel in Kochi, Kerala.

Pyakurel holds the position of Public Relations Officer, is a national level taekwondo player and works as a freelance content writer. Pyakurel said, like other fields such as sports, films, and journalism, the glamor industry holds significant importance. It would be highly beneficial to Nepali girls if we can get the opportunity to actively participate in such beauty pageants.

She added, “Nepal has a conservative take on beauty pageants while it is crucial to recognize that these events hold a different significance in various parts of the world. In many countries, beauty pageants are regarded as significant achievements rather than ordinary competitions.”

Talking about her inspiration she said, “I was motivated by Irina Shrestha, one of the top six finalists in Miss Glam World 2022. Looking at her journey on that platform made me participate in beauty pageants to make meaningful contributions for my country.”

Pyakurel's journey in the Miss Glam World pageant has provided her with a platform to advocate education for underprivileged children. She said, “In the coming days, I will work on providing free education and free stationary materials to children in the remote areas. I want to do this because I believe that making those children happy makes me satisfied.”

In the event organized by PEGASUS, there were representatives from over 35 countries this year. Miss Belgium Zomkey Tenzin became the winner while Samruddi Shetty from India won the title of ‘second-runner up.
