Whereabouts of 193 Nepalis, 80 foreigners still unknown

KATHMANDU, June 1:  The death toll from the April 25 earthquake and May 12 aftershock has reached 8,699 as of 10:00 am on Monday morning, police said.

A total of 22,489 people have been injured across the country.


Police said 1,729 lost their lives in the Kathmandu Valley, 58 in eastern region, 6,455 in central region, 455 in western region and two in mid-western region.

Likewise, 13012 were injured in Kathmandu Valley, 452 in eastern region, 7,745 in central region, 1,242 in western region, 36 in mid-western region and two in far-western region.

Among the deceased, 8,671 dead bodies have been handed over to family members, while 4,653 are receiving treatment at different hospital.

Nepal Police informed that 193 Nepalis and 80 foreigners are still missing.

Moreover, the devastating quake damaged 67,188 physical infrastructures in capital, 45,930 in eastern region, 200,862 in central region, 145,326 in western region, 10,085 in mid-western region and 148 in far-western region.

Police have been involved in distributing relief materials in quake-hit districts including Kathmandu Valley.  Some 44,629 police personnel have been deployed for clearing debris, patrolling and search and rescue operations.
