KATHMANDU, March 7: The counting of votes for the Nepali Congress (NC) president in the election held at the 13th General Convention started with hours of delay on early Monday morning.

The counting was slated to start at 10 pm Sunday night. But, it began only at 1 am following dispute over voting rights of nominated representatives.

Some 30 representatives nominated by the then President Sushil Koirala were barred from voting for election held for the new leadership in the afternoon.

Disputes surfaced in the party on whether to allow them to vote.

The election committee later in the night decided that they can’t exercise their voting rights this time.
