KATHMANDU, Dec 23: The United Nation's Children Fund (UNICEF) has pledged to build 74 health facilities in nine districts ravaged by the magnitude 7.9 earthquake of April and May.
Mahendra Bahadur Shrestha, chief of Policy Planning and International Cooperation Division at the MoHP and Dr Rownak Khan, acting country representative of UNICEF, signed the memorandum at the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) on Wednesday.

As per the understanding, the UNICEF will construct 74 health facilities using prefab materials in Solukhumbu, Ramechhap, Lalitpur, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Sindhupalchowk, Kavrepalanchok and Dolakha districts. The UNICEF will spend $ 2.2 million in the construction.
The UN agency has planned to handover the health facilities by June next year.
Apart from the health facilities, the UNICEF will also provide furniture and equipments and install solar system for electricty and power back up. Over 1,100 health facilities were heavily damaged in the devastating earthquake, out of which 400 were completely destroyed.
