Failing to nominate the members of the committee, a standing committee meeting on Wednesday ended inconclusively over the matter. The dispute over the nomination took a serious turn when former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal threatened to register a note of dissent on the decision as the party establishment, led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also the party chairman, tried to finalize the names despite the former's consent.
Senior leader Nepal leads a faction rival to the party's establishment.
Ghanashyam Bhusal, the party's deputy general secretary, said that they didn't accept the list of members proposed at the meeting as it didn't accommodate all sides in the party.
"Organization committee is the body that not only oversees all the issues related to the party cadres' membership, complaints and other matters but also takes crucial decisions on matters related to those issues," Bhusal, who represents Nepal panel, told Republica. "We therefore insisted that the committee should be more balanced in terms of representing various sides within the party."
Nepal had proposed Surendra Pandey, Bijay Poudel, Prakash Jwala and Beduram Bhusal to be included in the committee.
Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, who is from Oli's panel, said that the meeting couldn't reach any conclusion as the the number of proposed names increased to as many as 30 whereas they had to limit it to 25 members.
"The meeting has now remained inconclusive as it wasn't possible to include all leaders proposed by a certain leader in a single committee," said Gyawali.
As the meeting saw a heated debate over the matter, senior leaders including Jhalanath Khanal had to intervene and they proposed to defer the matter for next meeting.
