UDMF for package deal on all issues

KATHMANDU, July 23: United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) has reiterated that political parties must forge consensus on issues of constitution, government and elections in a package deal.



"The meeting concluded that contentious issues of new constitution should be resolved before changing the leadership of government," said Chairman of Sadbhawana Party and Health Minister Rajendra Mahato after a meeting of UDMF held in Singha Durbar on Monday evening. [break]



He stated that political parties should hold discussion on changing leadership of the government and process of promulgating new constitution after resolving contentious issues of constitution



"Political parties should be readied for Constituent Assembly (CA) elections, if they cannot forge consensus on the issues of new constitution," Mahato added.



The meeting concluded that changing the government before forging consensus on rest of issues would invite another crisis in the country.



The meeting also stressed on the need to simultaneously take forward legal issues for the new CA elections and attempts to forge consensus among parties .



Top Madhesi leaders are scheduled to hold discussion with President Ram Baran Yadav on Tuesday morning.
