The UDMF's decision to completely obstruct movement of goods and supplies via the Jogbani border comes at a time when the government and major parties have failed to reach a common understanding on federal demarcations. The Jogbani border lies in Morang, one of the districts the UDMF wants included in province number two.
The latest decision made by the UDMF leaders at the residence of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN) Chairman Upendra Yadav contradicted its last decision to allow medicines and essential supplies through the Jogbani border during daytime.
Along with blockage of supplies at the Jogbani border, the UDMF leaders have also decided to continue the East-West Highway obstruction in a strict manner, according to Yadav.
"Border blockade is our disobedience campaign against the government," he said. He also claimed that the disobedience movement has the support from Limbus and Magars.
"Biratnagar-Jogbani border will be blocked just like Birgunj," said another UDMF top leader Rajendra Mahato, who is also the chairman of Sadbhawana Party.
Sources claimed that Mahato had criticized Yadav over his failure to intensify protests in Morang as Yadav's residence is in Biratnagar.
It is learnt that FSFN Chairman Yadav would stay in Biratanagar for some days in order join supporters for obstructing the Jogbani border and intensify the protest in eastern districts.
The meeting was also attended by Tarai-Madhes Sadhbhawana Party (TMSP) Chairman Mahendra Raya Yadav and Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) leader Kumarnath Mishra, among other top leaders, from Morang and Sunsari districts.
"The government is yet to become serious toward the demands of Madhesis. So, the current movement has to be intensified in an effective manner," TMSP Chairman Yadav said.
"We've never shied away from talks and will never do," he said. But the government has been vitiating conducive environment for effective negotiations time and again, he blamed.
