Therefore, facials should be done according to one’s skin type, since every skin is different and requires its own care regime and rituals. [break]
One of the first and the most renowned beauticians in Nepal, Kamala Shrestha, does not believe that men’s skin is much different than that of women. Although it is true than women’s skin is more delicate than that of men and hormonal misbalance is witnessed more in women than in men due to their menstrual cycle and physiological changes experienced during pregnancy, it doesn’t mean that men’s skin is incapable of getting damaged.
“There are so many men who complain of allergies, pimples, acnes, pigmentations, wrinkles, sunburns and snow bites,” reveals Shrestha.
There are different kinds of skin in men as well as women, like normal, dry, combination and sensitive. Every skin requires its own set of care and treatment rituals. Shrestha says that rather than gender, facials usually depend on the texture of the skin and the age group that the person belongs to. So, one must have a good knowledge of the concerned skin type before starting with any kind of facial procedures on it.

Facials usually consists of a set of rituals, like cleansing, massage, toning, moisturizing, scrubbing and application of a face pack and sometimes even providing steam, depending upon the requirements of the skin. Age-wise, facials undergo slow and gradual changes with each passing decade. The same skin which is healthy and glowing in the twenties starts to lose its luster and allure with the thirties and forties if not taken care of. For wrinkled skin, it is always better to use gel-based moisturizers. To avoid skin pigmentation and premature crowfeet, one must always protect the skin from sun and get it cleaned on a daily basis. Facials are advised once a month, and their duration ranges from an hour to an hour and a half.
When it comes to the types of skin, oily skins are a little tricky. These are the skin that have a lot of pimples and should therefore be kept as free of moisture as possible. Dry skin too can be problematic. It can be uncomfortable and itchy, too. These have to be kept moist, and exfoliator, cream, mask, serum and under-eye gel are integral to dry skin treatment. Combination skins are challenging in the sense that some parts of it are dry while some are oily. After cleansing, the dry area of the skin is massaged and the face is toned with a cold compress, using a rose-based skin tonic.
With increasing amount of fake products in the market, it is important to keep one’s eyes open and minds alert. It may not always be pragmatic, in time and skills, to go for home remedies at all times but going to an experienced beautician can always make one feel safe that they are in experienced hands.
