DADELDHURA, July 11: Transport service in the far-western development region has come to a grinding halt due to a strike enforced by Ugratara Public Transport Service to protest the registration of a new transport entrepreneurs committee by the Dadeldhura administration.

Although some vehicles were seen plying the roads amid tight security in some hilly districts, vehicles in district headquarters and surrounding areas stayed off the roads.[break]

The banda enforcers have demanded that the Dadeldhura administration revoke the registration of the Dadeldhura Public Transport Entrepreneurs Committee.

Ugratara has been flexing muscles to ensure that it remains the only player in the region´s transportation sector. Although it has been two years since the Supreme Court asked the government to end all forms of syndicates in the transportation sector, transport entrepreneurs affiliated to Ugratara have been opposing the entry of new players in the sector.

Meanwhile, the far-western regional committee of the Federation of National Transport Entrepreneurs Nepal has called indefinite far-western region banda from Monday, demanding that the registration of new transport entrepreneurs committee be revoked.
