LAHAN, Feb 8: Following the end of obstruction at the Birgunj-Raxaul border on Friday, transport services in Saptari and Siraha districts have resumed in full-fledged manner from Sunday. Transport services in various Tarai districts had remained halted for over five months due to the Madhes agitation.

With the end of Birgunj border blockade, Sagarmatha Transport Entrepreneurs' Association made a formal decision to resume the operation of vehicles in Sagarmatha zone including Saptari and Sunsari district

"We have finally decided to resume transport services on our own as the Madhesi parties could not make a decision in our favor despite our frequent requests," said the association's president Hari Narayan Yadav. "Why halt transport when the border blockade has already ended?"

According to him, 25 passenger day buses have been leaving Siraha daily for different districts including Kathmandu.

Due to the closure of the transportation services, the bus transporters had to bear a loss of Rs 20 million, Yadav claimed.

Meanwhile, Siraha district coordinator of the United Democratic Madhesi Front, Kishori Yadav, criticized the transport operators' "unilateral" decision saying it undermines the agitation of the UDMF. According to him, the transport operators' decision is against UDMF.

"We've yet to make a decision with regard to the transport operators' decision to resume transport services," Yadav said.
