Tension grips Chitwan hospital over patient's death

CHITWAN, June 10: Locals in Bharatpur have been staging demonstrations at the Chitwan Medical College Teaching Hospital area on Monday, blaming the death of woman, who had been undergoing treatment at the hospital, on the doctors´  negligence.



Bhawani Khatiwad Ghimire, 22, from Basanta Chowk VDC in Bharatpur Municipality had died in the hospital Sunday.  She had given birth to a baby after surgical operation a day after she was admitted to the hospital on June. 4. [break]



Tension is running high at the hospital following the incident. Police have also been deployed to prevent any untoward incidents at the hospital.



The UCPN (Maoist) cadres have also participated in the protest along with the local residents. Demonstrators led by local Maoist cadres including the UCPN (Maoist) district secretary Amar, were dispersed after the police resorted to lathi charge at 3 pm.



Meanwhile, addressing a sit-in at the hospital, UCPN (Maoist) local leader Ramesh poudel said he participated in the demonstration as instructed by the former Maoist Constituent Assembly member Narayan Dahal.
