KATHMANDU, Feb 19: President of the Nepali Congress (NC), Gagan Kumar Thapa, has said the party has prepared a plan to create 1.5 million jobs over the next five years for Nepali youth.

While unveiling the party’s election manifesto at Rastriya Sabha Griha in Kathmandu, President Thapa said the NC has prepared its commitment document to continue its “Mission Employment” campaign and to ensure job creation as a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution.

He said the party’s commitment is not just to create 5,000 jobs casually, but to generate employment through sectoral plans in agriculture, tourism, physical infrastructure, information technology, and other fields.

He said, “We will design programs for 5,000 youths, whether in parliament or in government. We have prepared concrete programs regarding this.”

He claimed that NC has plans to ensure digital freedom for youth and to respect creativity.

“Today’s youth possess numerous talents, literary works, and creative outputs,” he said. “They have created them, but they are not finding markets to sell them. They are seeking freedom through this. We are clear about this issue.”

He stressed the need to mobilize youth skills and creativity.

“No young man or woman should find their education or acquired skills useless in the future. To keep them competent, it is necessary to add dynamism to the skills they are studying, because today’s market is competitive,” he said.

He also said the party has prepared plans not only to address brain drain but also to promote brain gain—focusing on how to institutionally bring skilled human resources back to Nepal.

“We have prepared plans on how to create an environment where youths who have migrated abroad can work institutionally in Nepal,” he said.
