KATHMANDU, May 29 : The government has spent only 63.76 percent of its total budget as the current fiscal year approaches its final 45 days, according to official data.
Out of a total budget of Rs 1.964 trillion for fiscal year 2082/83, the government has spent Rs 1.252 trillion as of May 15, the Financial Comptroller General Office said.
Recurrent expenditure stood at 72.85 percent of the annual target, amounting to Rs 860.31 billion against the allocation of Rs 1.180 trillion.

However, capital expenditure remained significantly low, reaching only 30.18 percent of its target. Out of the allocated Rs 407 billion for development spending, the government has been able to spend just Rs 123 billion so far.
Financial management expenditure stood at 71.64 percent, with Rs 268.84 billion spent against an allocation of Rs 375 billion.
On the revenue side, the government has collected Rs 1.026 trillion as of Wednesday, which accounts for 69.33 percent of the annual target of Rs 1.48 trillion.
Despite steady revenue collection, a gap of nearly Rs 200 billion has emerged between total revenue and expenditure, highlighting persistent fiscal imbalance issues.
Officials noted that structural weaknesses in public expenditure management continue to affect both revenue mobilisation and budget execution, a trend that has persisted in recent years.
