Govt introduces “mission mode” infrastructure push, announces sunset law

KATHMANDU, May 29: The government has announced a “mission mode” approach to accelerate infrastructure development, as part of its national budget for FY 2026/27.



Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle said the new model aims to speed up large-scale infrastructure projects that have faced delays, aligning them with previously announced policy commitments.

The government has also announced plans to introduce a “sunset law” aimed at phasing out outdated or time-bound regulations to improve efficiency in governance and project execution.


Addressing Parliament while presenting the budget, the Finance Minister also said the government will take measures to mitigate the impact of rising fuel and bitumen prices on infrastructure development.


In addition, the budget proposes an integrated urban development model to improve coordination in city planning and infrastructure expansion, aiming for more systematic and sustainable urban growth.
